Hello, we are the Eco-Schools group.

Eco-schools group meet every Friday from 12:30pm to 1:00pm in the after school club room. Every class from Year 1 to Year 6 is represented by 2 children.

This year the group have been making posters about saving electricity, we looked at healthy eating and made healthy flap jacks. Some members wrote to the school dinner staff to ask about the quality of the food that they cook and whether the meat was free range and how healthy the chips were.

Since November we have been making a film about how we can save water, electricity and prevent germs spreading by washing your hands.

What could you do to help save energy?

If you want to try the flapjack this is the recipe.

  1. 200g oats
  2. 100g apricots
  3. 150g raisins
  4. 25g sunflower seeds
  5. 20g linseeds
  6. 2 tbsp oil
  7. 1 tbsp honey
  8. 2 mashed bananas

  1. Preheat the oven to Gas Mark 5, grease and line a flapjack tin.
  2. Chop the apricots.
  3. Mix the oats, dried fruit, sunflower seeds and linseeds together.
  4. Mash the bananas in a separate bowl, add these to the mixture along with the oil.
  5. Heat the honey for 20 seconds in the microwave and add to the mix.
  6. Spoon into the tin and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cover for half of this time with foil or baking parchment to prevent the top layer of fruit burning.
