Art at Windmill
The art curriculum offered at Windmill encourages confident, risk-taking, experimental, articulate, artists.
The Mastery Curriculum’s core aims are to develop
- children’s skills, technique and confidence across a wide range of media
- brave, inventive, resourceful and individual approaches to tasks and media
- appreciation and critiquing skills of art from a range of movements and styles
- a love of art and an idea of their own aesthetic
Children explores line, colour, shape, form, texture, value, space through drawing, painting, printing and sculpture.
An individual journey
Sketchbooks are in use in KS2 and will be introduced in KS1 in 2021.
A child’s sketchbook showcases his/her personal artistic journey through the school – a comprehensive record of swatches, practice, notes, planning, mock-ups, sketches photographs, experimentation, rough works and final pieces.

Resources
We encourage staff and children to be resourceful and ecological: reuse, recycle and reinvent - e.g. cardboard can be chopped up and used as canvas to paint on, as a glue spreader, as sculpting material, or as pallets for mixing paint. Plastic pots for water pots and glue containers; salt dough as an alternative to clay; mud, sticks and leaves to paint with for different effects. Sweet wrappers for coloured paper, etc.
