Term 3 and 4- Coming to England

In the Spring term, our enquiry questions are: What makes someone inspirational? Do walls protect or divide?

We will explore the text ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin. We will look at the following.

  • The reasons people left the Caribbean to come to England
  • The Windrush generation
  • The hardships and discrimination that people faced
  • To know that Afro-Caribbean people were present in Britian pre-1940.
  • To look at the positive impact that migration has had – delving further into the NHS and how the Cowley Road had changed.
  • To look at how walls have been used to divide Oxford and the Cutteslowe wall.
  • To look at inspirational people who have changed the world such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King.

Planned trips and Visits:

  • Gallery of Movers and Shakers (Parent and carer invitation).
  • NHM evolution workshop.
