The Library

Over the last year you may have seen or heard that Windmill Primary School Library has undergone a wonderful rejuvenation,  which  the children and staff are definitely enjoying.

The most exciting new developments is that the library will be open every lunchtime and we have lots of new books on the shelves for the children to enjoy.

This week, are new books about our sporting heroes, Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah, Hussein Bolt, to name but a few.  We also have new fiction books including The Chocolate Box Girls,  Captain Underpants, Lord of the Rings, and the Hobbit.  Books by popular authors, Jaqueline Wilson, Michael Morpurgo.  Picture books, include authors, Julia Donaldson, Anthony Browne, Dr Sseus.

In addition we have subscribed to 'First News' an award-winning newspaper for children.

These developments have been achieved so far, with much thanks to parents, volunteers, WSA and local community funding:

Book Fairs: From parental support at the last book fair the school raised £778.57 from Scholastic Books, this money has been directly re-invested in books for the library.

The 100 Club: This is a club set up by WSA that specifically raises money for the library.  So far with this money we have subscribed to the Schools Library Association, and the rest of the money is to be used for buying books. If you want details of how to join this club, please contact kate.king@nsmresearch.co.uk.

Community Grant: From Roz Smith, our local councillor, we have been given a grant of £735.00 to invest in continuing library developments: book spinners and a shelf labelling system for the non-fiction section.

But there is still more work to be done. We want to develop better research facilities, including access to computers and /or iPads, a listening station for access to audio books, and a set of fiction books for 11+.

Please continue to support us, whether this is helping to open/develop the library, joining the 100 club, or buying a book from our Book Fairs.  It all helps to contribute to a happy and vibrant library for the children to enjoy!

Yours

Library Team
