Terms 3 and 4- World War 2 - Blitzed Brits

Within this topic we look at the events which lead up to WW2, building on what the children have learnt previously about WW1. We then look at evacuation, rationing, the home front and the role of women in the war, as well as specific significant events such as the Dunkirk landings. We also learn about forces in Science and how this is applied to items such as parachutes. In cookery, we try out recipes made with rations.

We read a variety of texts set in wartime which show differing viewpoints and perspectives. We also hear first hand accounts from people who have memories of that time.

We visit the soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum where we handle artefacts from the time and spend time in a simulated air raid shelter.
