Home Learning
At Windmill during the Reception year learning will take place during purposeful and high quality interactions and through play. You will receive some key pieces of learning to explore with your child at home.
These will include but not be limited to:
- New phonics sounds weekly once this is being taught and progressing towards applying phonics skills in writing and reading activities.
- A reading task weekly - see the 'Reading in Reception' information for more about this.
- Parents sharing their children's learning and development via our online learning journal 'Tapestry'. See 'Tapestry in Reception' for more information.
Tapestry
All Reception children attending Windmill Primary School will have a personal, online, Learning Journey which records photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This is to build up a record of your child’s experiences and learning during their time with us. This is all done on the computer programme called Tapestry.

Parents will have secure access (via email address and password) to their own child’s Learning Journey and, in addition to viewing staff contributions, we encourage parents to add to it by uploading photos and comments, or commenting on observations made at school.
Where do I start?
Once you have given us a valid email address, we will set up an account for you. Please check your inbox for an activation email (this may have ended up in spam or junk) and follow the links to set up your own password.
Then to log in at any time, go to https://eylj.org on your computer, or download the Tapestry Mobile app onto your phone or tablet from your app store. The Tapestry desktop version has more options and looks slightly different to the app version, however you can view and add observations on both.
What you will receive from school:
- A weekly update about the learning taking place in school -
- Key communication regarding dates, activities etc.
- Observations including photos, videos and written observations about your child’s learning in class. These will be specifically focused on new learning for your child and there is no set amount or frequency, just as and when it happens. Our main focus in class is to spend quality time with your child and embed learning through play.
Home
You can use Tapestry at home to share significant moments in your child’s development linked to our learning and goals in school and to share exciting moments/news. Here are some ideas linked to each area of learning that you could create an observation for:
