Term 5 and 6- Maya Civilization and Walls
In Term 5, we will study the Maya. We will be looking at the enquiry question: Why do we remember the Maya?
We will also explore some of the following:
1) How did the West 'rediscover' the Maya?
2) What was life like in a Maya city-state?
3) Why is Pakal known as the great?
4) What made the Maya remarkable?
5) Why did the Maya abandon the lowland cities around 900AD?
6) How did the Maya and Anglo-Saxons differ?
In the unit, we will develop our skills in relation to chronological understanding, source analysis and pursue a line of historical enquiry.
In Term 6, we will look at Walls as part of our local history study. We will explore the Cutteslowe Wall and look at the role of walls in the defence of Oxford during the civil war. This unit will also include map work and fieldwork.
