What is happening in Year 1 and Year 2? 

We have many exciting things coming up in year 1 and 2... read all about them as they happen below!

 

September 2024 update:

In Year 1 the children have been learning all about beaches. They used their experience day ‘Beach Day’ to develop their knowledge on the features of a beach by creating their own. They also looked at the similarities of beaches then and now. We have also been developing our art skills looking at creating spirals.

                              

In year 2 the children have been on an Island Adventure. They have been meeting the character Grandpa Jazz and thinking about what is precious to them. Year 2 have also started Forest School with the first class attending the site.

October 2024 update: 

This month the children in Year 1 discovered the most recent fossil findings that rivalled Mary Anning’s findings. They looked at the importance of equality when thinking who is the source of the findings. They also found some fossils of their own! The children learnt about habitat in our Sustainability week

Fair Trade was a hot topic in year 2 for the Sustainability week as the children learnt all about the importance of this and where our food comes from. They also continued to explore Grandpa Jazz. They mapped our school and looked at the Islands and compared elements of the UK to Mauritius.

November 2024 update: 

The children in year 2 have been celebrating and learning all about celebrations. They discovered why we celebrate Firework Night and have been using this in their writing and history looking at Guy Fawkes. They are also preparing for their big event of the year, their Christmas Production!!

In year 1 the children are All Aboard and learning about the different ways to travel and how they have changed over time. The children have also started to look at the effects transport may have on the environment!

All the children in KS1 have now had an experience at Forest School too!

 

December 2024 Update:

In December the year 2 children have been working hard on their incredible production, they have been learning songs, learning dances and learning lines… the jigsaw pieces are coming together! We are all so excited to see it!

 

In year 1 the children have looked at the problems that may occur with transport, they have discovered the effects of pollution and aimed to make a change!

January 2025 update:

With the New Year comes a new term and we have been shooting for the stars!

In year 1, the children have been learning all about super heroes and what superpowers they have. They have learnt about significant others in history that have used their superpowers to change the world around them!

In year 2, the children have also been looking beyond the world and their significant person in History has been Neil Armstrong as they learn about the famous moon landing!

 

February 2025 update:

The children have been working very hard! In year 1 they got their voices heard about equality and share their thoughts in their sharing assembly and year 2 have been looking at why people want to go to the moon all these years later! 

 

March/April  2025 update: 

In year 1, the children have been looking at ways to stay healthy! They looked at what to eat, how to keep fit and how to look after their minds. They have also discovered that some people do not have the opportunity to have food and worked with local foodbanks to support. They wrote reports on how you can support so look out for this in the newsletter!

In year 2, the children were looking at the Ocean. They discovered the different zones of the ocean as well as animals that may live there. They looked at the oceans all around the world! They also discovered the effects of plastic pollution. They have discovered how this affects the animal and looked at what changes they can make.
